We are offering Mount&Blade through a try before you buy model. You can download the game and start playing right away. What you download is not a demo, it is the full game. There is, however, a level limit at 6. When your character reaches level 6, you can start a new game or, if you decide you like the game well enough, go on and buy a license online. As soon as you buy a license you will obtain a serial key which will remove the level limit. You will not need to download the game again.
Mount&Blade is maintained actively and we release updated versions every few months. When a new version comes out, you can download it from this page. Your serial key will unlock updated versions too.
Notes for people who are upgrading from previous versions:
Savegames from older versions will not work with version 0.960. If you want to restore your character from an old version, load your character with the old version, and from character window->statistics menu, export your character. You can then create a character with the same name and use the import function to import him to the new game.

HL:S makes use of new Source engine technologies for lighting and water in which it departs from
the Gouraud shading used in the original Half-Life and water receives a translucent effect
rather than being opaque and there is a simulation of water reflection, refraction, and
diffraction. Due to the availability of high processing power PCs, Half-Life: Source features
new high-resolution skyboxes, which simulate a longer draw distance. Although Source includes a
physics engine, most objects in HL:S cannot be manipulated in the same way as they can in
Half-Life 2 (particularly since there is no Gravity Gun). Also, players cannot lift items like
in Half-Life 2.
The loading and menu screens have been redesigned to be similar to the ones in Half-Life 2, with
the backgrounds featuring several scenes from various portions of the game (namely, Anomalous
Materials, Xen, Blast Pit, and Surface Tension).; the only difference between the HL:S menus and
the Half-Life 2 menus is the absence of a "2" in HL:S. In this way, Half-Life: Source is only
referred to as such through Steam; for all intents and purposes, and throughout the game, it is
only ever called Half-Life.
